Keep your hands off my public library
My bet is that Trump has never fallen in love with a library…never fallen in love with a book…never cherished a quiet time reading and exploring the world.
I have been in love with public libraries since I was just old enough to carry a Wizard of Oz book to the librarian to check out. There was nothing better than carrying out a bag full of books to devour at home. I like to think my little library was special. Here is a picture .
I passed this love story on to my children through weekly visits to Mrs. G at our West Portal library in San Francisco. The kids had free rein to check out any books they wanted. They think their library is special.
Public libraries on Trump’s hit list
When I heard that public libraries are now on the Trump hit list. I exploded with four letter words you would not even whisper in a library.
My bet is that Trump has never fallen in love with a library…never fallen in love with a book…never cherished a quiet time reading and exploring the world.
You can bet that:
His first picture of a fox did not come from a Beatrice Potter book but from a television screen.
When you mention the word “Bunny” it's not Peter who first comes to mind.
He never had a reading buddy.
He probably mocks billionaire Andrew Carnegie, who spent his money building libraries instead of keeping the money for himself.
This is another display of his utter ignorance. A man without a clue about how libraries open the world to our children. (Or maybe that is just the point. Only let our children learn what HE wants them to learn.)
Take action
Sign the petition to Stop Trump's Attacks on Federal Funding for Libraries
Trump’s executive order calls for the elimination of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the nation’s only federal agency for America’s libraries. Institute of Museum and Library Services is an independent federal agency that supports libraries, archives and museums in all 50 states and U.S. territories.
This threatens :
Early literacy development and grade-level reading programs
Summer reading programs for kids
High-speed internet access
Employment assistance for job seekers
Braille and talking books for people with visual impairments
Homework and research resources for students and faculty
Veterans’ telehealth spaces equipped with technology and staff support
STEM programs, simulation equipment and training for workforce development
Small business support for budding entrepreneurs
Thanks Sandy. This is but another example of Trump's efforts to keep people from thinking and learning. Its ok to have a great private library...just don't spread that knowledge around.
Great article, Carol. It is so sad that we have a total ignoramus and moron as our Chief Executive, the “leader of the free world”. His administration is now crossing the line into dystopic territory. Being quasi-illiterate, he fears books and, therefore, must attack them, much as his predecessor did in 1930’s Germany. If you can’t read ‘em, burn ‘em. I can’t ever imagine him reading a bedtime story to one of his kids before tucking them in. He is a vacant, vacuous little man with limited emotional intelligence and even less language. The end of his reign can’t come soon enough.
